Expect the unexpected

The time is almost near for you to meet the child you have carried for the past nine months, but are you prepared or do you know what to expect once you go into labor and give birth to your child?  If this isn’t your first, then you already know what to expect in this eventful, yet rewarding day.  The following will hopefully give you insight on what to expect on that day.

There are 2 different types of delivery of your baby.  The most heard of, and probably the most safest is considered to be a vaginal birth.  In certain situations, but not always the doctors will use instruments if needed to help guide the baby down the birth canal.  One of the devices used is a vacuum.  With this instrument they will put it on the babies head and use it as a suction cup with the doctor pulling on his/her end to help ease the baby out. Another instrument is what is known as forceps.  These resemble large spoons. The same concept is used for forceps as with the vacuum.

Sometimes for medical reasons a cesarean is needed.  A cesarean is an incision made into the mothers abdomen and then finally reaching the uterus. It’s sobering to think of education finance once you’ve decided to pursue secondary education. Indeed, a good private college can cost in upwards of $30,000 a year. Even state run schools will cost you multiple thousands of dollars. In a perfect world, students would all come from rich families waiting to pick up the tab on their education. In reality, everyone must find a way to pay for college and other secondary schools.

In order to get your school paid for entirely, you will need to achieve the grades to warrant an educational scholarship. In addition, the athletic ability to qualify for a sports scholarship could be a free way through a university door. These scholarships apply only to Division One schools and to only a small percentage of the student pool. The rest of the population has to find a way to pay for college. With a little diligence, you can apply for grant money, which will be tuition that you do not need to reimburse.

Stafford loans are the most often used means of education finance. Services like payday loans can be used to cover the cost of textbooks if these loans don’t cover all your costs. Stafford loans must be applied for and the amounts are often contingent on parental income. These are loans, which will need to be repaid starting six months after you graduate.

Paying for college isn’t easy, but the expectation is that you will get a career allowing you to repay the loans. It’s wise to look down the road at what your career will generate as an income and compare that to education costs.

Ways to Avoid Sickness While Traveling

Motion sickness is caused by signals between the ears, the eyes, and the body itself becoming misinterpreted by the brain. In other words, if you are in a situation where the body is not moving but something else is (such as a car or ship), and you are trying to read or make any other movements, the brain may incorrectly perceive that your body is moving when it isn’t. This can cause the nausea, dizziness, and vomiting that is often associated with this illness.

Children often suffer from motion sickness, and for some this may continue into adulthood. The symptoms can range from a slight “queasy” feeling to full-blown nausea, sometimes accompanied by vomiting. In addition, the sufferer can feel dizzy or even experience headaches.

This can be diminished by the use of several methods. These include sitting in the middle row of car seats (if there is a middle row) rather than the rear (this can work for children as well as adults), or sitting in the front. If no middle row is present, and the sufferer is a child, the middle of the back seat may be the best place. On planes, as far away from the lavatory as possible, and as close to the middle as possible is the best place for motion sickness sufferers, while the inner decks of a ship or the middle seat of a pleasure boat are the best places.

Motion sickness can be treated by using over-the-counter drugs such as Dramamine. You can get this medication in pill or patch form. Sipping Ginger ale, and avoiding heavy, greasy foods can also help. However, your stomach should not be empty, as an empty stomach has been known to trigger nausea. There are also wristbands or bracelets that apply pressure to one area of the wrist where it is said that pressing will alleviate symptoms of this illness. Those wishing to avoid medication may want to try this remedy.

Having fun with your 6 to 9 year old Child

One of the joys of parenting is coming up with fun and interesting ways to spend time with your child. Work is a grind and school can supply pressures that are very taxing to your loved young one. However, when the weekend arrives and you are free from the pressures of school and work, you can settle in to some great family time without breaking the bank in the process. here are a few tips to some great family entertainment.

1.) Take your child to the library- A great educational experience can also be an occasion to spend solid time with your child. Take your child to the library and explain how the system works. Indeed, most kids are very excited to look around in the kids section of their local library. Pick out a quiet spot after finding a book and read with your child. Explain to the the words and meanings of term they do not understand and they are sure to appreciate the time and guidance.

2.) Board games- In the age of technology, i-phones, and 600 channel cable TV, the days of board games seem to be gone for some. However, this need not be the case. Many of the classic Parker Brothers games are still available and ready to supply family time just as they have been doing for decades. At first, your kids may think this is some sort of punishment but in tim,e they will appreciate it. These games are a great way to foster some family time and to sneak in questions about wht’s going on in your child’s life.

Volunteering With Your Family

Volunteering with your family is a great way to teach your kids about giving back to the community. Volunteering will strengthen your family bond, and help re-orient narcissistic perspectives. If you aren’t able to volunteer, you can always donate to charitable organizations like Kars for Kids.  Your children may not be self-centered, but they live in a world of people that are!

So how can your whole family volunteer together? Well, you can start by considering times to volunteer. You may feel like you’re too busy to incorporate volunteering into your schedule, but you might consider making it an extracurricular activity. Or, you might volunteer during holidays. Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Easter and Thanksgiving are great times to volunteer.

One thing you might do is organize a food or clothing drive in your neighborhood, or perhaps a bake sale. Baking cupcakes and cookies is fun, and you can help the organization of your choice. You can have all bake sale proceeds benefit the charity you want to support. You could also consider volunteer opportunities at a homeless shelter or your local humane society.

There are lots of other ways to volunteer, too. Consider your family values. Decide what’s important to you, and how you can contribute. Also, consider your likes and dislikes. Perhaps you love gardening, but your kids hate it? Figure out something that everyone will enjoy. What about a walk or bike ride to raise awareness? When you’re trying to find volunteering activities for the family, you have a lot to consider!

Keep the Family Safe While Camping

If you are planning to take the family camping, there are a few preventative measures you can take to ensure that all have a good time. Spending a night or weekend away from the home and out in the wild can be a enjoyable experience for the entire family. Millions of Americans each year take to the outdoors for family fun. It is a very cost effective way to spend a weekend and allows families some much needed bonding time free from the distractions of everyday life. There are certain precautions you should take however to make sure everyone is happy, warm and safe.

1.) Prepare for rain- Even if the forecast looks good, the wise camper will always plan for a rainstorm. Make sure your tent comes complete with a tarp to drape across the top of the tent so rain is not allowed to enter. Also, bring plenty of extra wood. You may be counting on the forest to supply your camp fire wood but if there is a good rain, the wood will be wet and useless. Also, bring waterproof matches with you and paper to get a good fire going and to be able to start multiple fires over the course of your trip.

2.) Know where you are- Bring a compass or some sort of GPS tracking device with your if you are camping somewhere new and it isn’t a traditional camping resort. Nothing will ruin a fun weekend faster than getting lost while camping and spending frantic hours searching for the way back to your site. This is not an enjoyable experience and is potentially very serious. make sure you know where you are and that you have all the supplies you need.

Camping is a great way to spend time with your family. Be safe and make sure to have fun.
